CP Blog Entry #2B: List two reasons for choosing APTT.

I have struggled with the amount of time I spend conferencing every year since I began teaching 21 years ago. I have also noticed a significant decline in parent involvement from Open House to school activities, volunteering, and individual conferences. On top of that, over the past three years our student test scores have declined. I am hoping that through the use of this model, our teachers will be able to work smarter, not harder, our parents will become more involved, and our students will be more successful on assessments and in their overall lives.

  1. Tess,
What a great project to focus on as parent involvement, in my opinion, is such a vital part to students' overall success. Has anyone in your school used any social networking to increase parent involvement like Remind 101, Twitter, Facebook, mass emailing, etc.? I wonder if creating a parent survey in Google at the beginning of the year so when parents come through for open house or you can use a mobile device to fill out the form email awhile they are rolling through parent pickup so you can get a database started. I wonder if getting the word out will help because it can personalize the message more so than a phone call. Anyway, you have a daunting task, which is in a way ironic that you are asking parents to get involved in their kids education by becoming active members of the school community. That should just be a given, in my opinion.
    Sincerely,
    Chris Carboni

    1. I know many teachers at my school who use Remind 101 and they love it. It was a bit overwhelming for me to use last year, but I am going to try it this year. Thanks for the "reminder!" LOL

  2. This sounds great! I can't wait to see the results and someday try it in my classroom.
